Tips On Choosing A Suitable Juicer For Home Use

Blenders and Juicers have become essential appliances for use in the modern kitchen. With the need for healthy living, more and more people are investing in these appliances. Many health enthusiasts are acquiring the more efficient celery & greens horizontal slow juicer. With an increase in the use of juicers, it is essential to know what juicer will serve your purpose.

There are mainly three categories of juices based on their extraction process.

  • Centrifugal juicers

The juicers grind the fruits into tiny pieces and then pass them through a mesh-like sieve to separate the juice from the waste. It is the most commonly used juicer because it is affordable and easy to use. Its parts can also be removed and cleaned using a dishwasher. It is easy to assemble and not very sophisticated. They produce a lot of noise when grinding fruits.

The downside to these appliances is that the juice produced is foamy due to juice extraction. The high speeds of operation produce some heat, leading to oxidation of the juice, degrading some of the nutrients in it. It is most suitable for hard foods like carrots and apples. It is not very efficient with leafy and high fibre vegetables.

  • Masticating juicers

The term masticate means “to chew.”These juicers operate by grinding vegetables and fruits using augers and squeezing the juice. They are slower in comparison to centrifugal juicers but more effective. Because of the slow action, they do not produce heat and therefore eliminate the oxidation of the nutrients in the juice. The juice is consequently of better quality.

Masticating juicers are suitable for leafy and high fibre fruits and vegetables. They are also referred to as cold press juices since they do not produce heat. They use more robust motors to enable them to squeeze the juice out of the fruits. This improvement makes them more expensive in comparison to centrifugal juicers.

Their yields are higher since they maximally extract much of the juice from the fruits and vegetables. Masticating juicers are quieter and do not make much noise during operation.

Unlike the other juicers, they are powerful enough to make peanut butter and pasta at home.

  • Triturating Juicers

Triturating Juicers operate by using twin gears that crush fruits or vegetables to extract their juice. They work by grinding, mixing and pressing fruit to almost dry pulp and high-quality juice extract. It is a horizontal juice and therefore needs more space to operate. They are also more expensive than centrifugal and masticating juices.

The upside to this juicer is that it can grind nuts and seeds and chop vegetables.

In a nutshell, when looking for a suitable juicer, consider;

  • The Speed

Centrifugal juicers are fast and can give you juice in less than a minute. Therefore, this one will do for an early morning glass of juice before work.

  • Budget

The decision on what juicer to buy will be determined by the money available. Triturating and masticating juicers are more efficient and give better quality juice but are more expensive.

  • Type of fruit

Each of the juicers is suitable for a particular type of fruits

Other factors to consider would be storage and space, ease of assembly, usage and cleaning

You are now more enlightened on what to consider when buying a home juicer.
