Herpes

This disease is caused by the infection spared by herpes simplex viruses. Both type-1 and type-2 of the herpes simplex viruses cause the disease. However, the disease can be further categorized depending upon the area of infection. If the infection is observed in areas inside or around the mouth then it is called oral herpes, whereas if the infection takes place in the genital organs then it is called genital herpes or simply herpes.

Other types are also there like cerebral herpes, herpes gladiatorum, herpetic whitlow, and ocular herpes etc.; which are rarely observed. Generally, it takes 2 to 21 days for the herpes virus to spread completely and then the remission period begins. However, in case of genital herpes, no such symptoms are observed and the viral shedding continues. It is non-transferable in general however when the fluid comes in contact it is transmitted.

Generally in case of genital herpes it can be categorized under sexually transmitted diseases. Oral herpes are easy to diagnose. However, barrier or prevention methods are best to reduce the risk of genital herpes. There is no permanent solution for this problem as the virus prevails through out the lifetime of an individual.
